SOBRIETY NEWS 2000

January, 2000

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!

Thanks to everyone for the great comments about Sobriety News and it's new look and delivery method. That aside, SN2000 is looking for reporters and editors to work together to build a bigger and better monthly "news update. As in the program it is hard to "do this alone and each month it seems to get more difficult. SN's goal is have each area group represented in print. Only you can help, if you would. Write articles about your group, send your speakers information, shoot over the latest event or whatever to hhbafretoix.iidconi.cg,n,. Or bring your information and articles to the Harrisburg Area Intergroup Meeting.

In error: My apologies to the folks who received SN by mail. I forgot to send it out. There will be no additional charge for this service or in this case, lack of service.

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE Every third Saturdap of the month! Fellowship House, Harrisburg.

ALCOTHON 2000 SUCCESS

The new year began with a very successful event as The Harrisburg Area Intergroup Alcothon brought unity and fellowship to folks in recovery with meetings every two hours. The event was held at Fellowship House and was conducted by area groups in their own "home meeting formats". Feedback by the groups, during the Harrisburg Area Intergroup meeting, indicated good attendance.

Intergroup approves the creation of an Internet Website

The Harrisburg Area Intergroup will have a presence on the World Wide Web in the near future. The Intergroup representatives from the area approved the creation of an Internet website at the January 6th, 2000 monthly meeting of the Harrisburg Area Intergroup. In the coming months sample pages will be created and submitted to the Intergroup Representatives for individual group approval. Costs for the new "out reach' service will be around $25.00. Intergroup is also looking for a committee of volunteers who will maintain the site after it's creation.

On line Websites for AA related activities are growing on the Internet. AA International operates a large site and many lntergroups around the country have established their own after AA International's public relations approval of the Internet as an outreach tool. The site may include meetings schedules, steps & traditions, Sobriety News, literature purchase, contact information, a welcome message from the Intergroup Chairperson, links to GSA in New York, Central office, Is AA for You and facts about AA.

Joy of Living Reached Out to Help the Needy & You Responded

Tina from the Joy of Living group sends sincere thanks to all who donated toys for the J of L kids event. To say that it was a great success would be an understatement. Here is her message:

We especially like to thank Bob and Joanne for being Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Please keep us in mind for our next party in December 2000.

HARRISBURG AREA INTERGROUP "THE" HISTORY IN THE WRITING

Bill C. has the proofs done and a small group of AA folks are looking over the 68+ pages that make up one of the most, if not the most complete history of local AA's groups. The book, in it's third edition, spans the period from early 1940 through January 1,2000. Bill and numerous contributors have attempted to seize the growth of the AA community in the l-larrishurg area and capture it's "evolution. The book includes a general history of AA "in the belief that our local development is part of a larger picture that ties all of us together locally and nationally, today with yesterday and the future. The entire, finished product should be ready for distribution very soon.

Then Bill C. can say "that's 30 for this edition." Way to go Bill!

Other Stuff (that is important)

Fisherville needs meeting attendees for it's Tuesday night (7pm) meeting at the Messiah Lutheran Church on Ender Road in beautiful downtown Fisherville. It's a great - Big Book meeting. Check it out.

Volunteers are needed for the February meetings at the Harrisburg State Hospital, Tuesday nights from 7 to 7:50.

Elections will be held on February 3rd for the officers positions within the Harrisburg Area Intergroup. The meeting begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Fellowship House, Fellowship House, 1251 S. 19th Street, Harrisburg, PA.

  Grapevine Begins a Bulletin Board

 Editor note:
The following describes a new service of Grapevine and is information copied directly off of the AA/Grapevine website. For further review of this site and its current topic go to: http://www.aagrapevine.org/BB Ideas.html

The Grapevine has long been known as a forum for debate within the Fellowship and we hope you will participate in this medium in a responsible way. As our Statement of Purpose (found in each issue of the magazine) states, we "enjoy perfect freedom of speech on all matters directly pertaining to Alcoholics Anonymous. However, let's make sure to treat each other with respect, even if we disagree. To that end, we reserve the right to moderate and edit this bulletin board. In addition, we ask you to refrain from any kind of solicitations, since this Bulletin Board is to be based solely on the experience, strength and hope of individuals.

The Grapevine does not assume any responsibility should you choose to give out your name, e-mail address, or other personal information, and with the principle in mind that "anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, we have created this bulletin board so that you can remain totally anonymous, creating a screen name and password of your choice.

We recognize that the forum we are offering here will become what you make it through your participation and we hope that you will enjoy the sense of community we expect to develop and grow as this bulletin board takes shape. So read the ongoing discussions, start a new topic, vote on different issues, ask a question, or answer someone else's. And remember, we have but one primary purpose - to carry the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Again, no solicitations, please.
